JUVENILE DETENTION MONITOR
ONE FULL TIME POSITION AND MULTIPLE PRN POSITIONS
The Madison County Juvenile Detention Center is hiring one full time and multiple PRN Detention Monitors.
The full time position is fully benefit eligible and will work Wednesday through Sunday 3 PM to 11 PM. Please do not apply if you cannot work this schedule.
The PRN positions are non-benefit eligible positions with no set number of hours guaranteed per week. Employees in the PRN pool work on an as-needed basis to cover for regular full time and part time staff. The Detention Center operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year, so PRN staff are needed for all shifts, weekdays and weekends.
High school diploma and at least 6 months of experience working directly with youth
Must be able to relate to a diverse population of adolescents, work as part of a team, and must possess good communication skills. The job requires considerable writing and computer logging, so applicants should have basic PC skills.
Must complete physical examination, including drug testing. Applicants should be aware that at times a great deal of standing and physical exertion will be required. There will also be some lifting involved.
This position requires tolerance of confinement in that the working area is small and can be cramped at times. The work area is an indoor area with no windows.
Employees in this position will be in direct contact with a diverse population of people and problems and must demonstrate patience. Some individuals that Detention Monitors deal with will have mental and physical health issues that must be handled appropriately.
Valid Tennessee driver’s license
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Detention Monitors receive juveniles from law enforcement, conduct body searches, and process young people into the secure detention area by providing showers and performing drug testing. Monitors must prepare records on each youth by logging resident information into the Quest computer system. They must assist in maintaining visual contact with each youth and logging observations; conduct household chores; answer telephones; arrange any service needed by youth; follow policies and procedures for the facility; attend training as assigned; and perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
