Inspections Required
Inspections are required for:
- Footing
- Foundation
- Framing
- Insulation
- Final
- Culvert - The County right of way includes ditches on both sides of a road, and the law requires that these ditches remain open. Driveway culvert sizes are listed on your permit for lots in an approved subdivision. The minimum diameter driveway culvert size on County roads is 12 inches.
- Electric - The State of Tennessee enforces the National Electrical Code in Madison County, and the State Electrical Inspector inspects the electrical portion of your construction. An electrical permit must be purchased from Southwest Tennessee Electric Co-op located on Highway 70 East. If your power is being furnished by Gibson County Electric, purchase the permit in Trenton.
- City Sewer / Septic System - A separate plumbing permit is required and purchased at our office. A Health Department letter is required on all septic systems. Call the Health Department at (731) 234-0443 or (731) 423-3020 to set up an appointment with an environmentalist for a soil perk test. We must have a copy of the Health Department letter before issuing a Building Permit.
- Gas - A separate gas permit is required and purchased at our office for natural gas. Call our office at (731) 423-6014 for inspections.
